not really sure what else to say about this, other than that “blink and you’ll miss a revolution” is by far and away the best new song i’ve heard in months.
“sun god” is a 15-minute get-yr-ass-on-the-damn-dance-floor anthem that goes by in the blink of an eye. early single “where i’m going” sounds splendiferous, neatly slotted in here between “take me over” and “pharaohs and pyramids,” two of cut copy’s catchiest and most memorable tracks yet (and yes, we are talking about the band that gave us “nobody lost, nobody found” and “lights and music”). i could write scads of lusty paragraphs about every song on zonoscope, but i’m gonna spare you that.
the bottom line(s): this band knows how to work with the sickest beats imaginable, and the layers of synthy ooey-gooey goodness on this record are enough to get anyone with a functional brain and an appreciation for dance music 100% hooked. so if you haven’t found a way to re-route it to your ears yet, you better get on that shit ASAP.
very related sidenote: 2011 is shaping up to be a mother-flippin’ fantastic year for music. here are the five albums i’m most eager to get my paws on:
1) panda bear – tomboy (april 12)
2) pj harvey – let england shake (february 14)
3) toro y moi – underneath the pine (february 22)
4) fleet foxes – helplessness blues (may 3)
5) tv on the radio – nine types of light (spring?)
i’m holding off on putting the sorta-announced new animal collective album here because who knows if it’ll actually come out this year or not… but it should go without saying that i’m stoked for that.
one last thing: boston people, y’all should go to this: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=185084101510542#!/event.php?eid=185084101510542
